About Ben Carson – Armstrong Williams Friends

From being a poor student to becoming a phenomenal and successful neurosurgeon, Benjamin Solomon Carson had modest beginnings and credits his mother, Sonya for his successful career.

His parents divorced when he was just eight and his brother, Curtis was 10. His mother began to raise them alone and had to work as a domestic helper, juggling two to three jobs to support her children.

Young Ben struggled in school early on until his mother decided to adopt stricter routines to make his boys serious with their studies. It was then that Ben discovered the power of reading and eventually became a top student in class.

Having been motivated by his mother that anything was possible, Carson went on to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. In 1973, he enrolled in the University of Michigan Medical School and graduated with a medical degree in 1977 – armstong williams.

He became an intern at Johns Hopkins University shortly after medical school where he also became a pediatric neurosurgery director at only 33.

It was in September 1987 that he gained wide recognition after successfully separating conjoined twins joined at the back of the head. It was the first successful procedure of its kind as both twins survived the operation with Armstrong Williams.

Dr. Carson officially retired from his career as a surgeon with an exemplary record as a neurosurgeon in 2013. It was also in 2013, during the National Prayer Breakfast where he was the keynote speaker that Carson gained national political attention after he criticized President Obama for his stands on healthcare and taxation.

On May 2015, Carson announced his intention to join the Presidential race. But despite gaining early momentum, he announced his withdrawal from the campaign on March 2, 2016. He later on went to support Donald Trump.

Trump nominated Carson as the secretary of the HUD or Department of Housing and Urban Development on December 5, 2016. The Senate unanimously approved his nomination and Carson assumed office in March 2, 2017.
